OK, let's first address the quality of this AUD. Crispy. May want to boost the bass, but other than that, Crispy. Next, the show itself. The first set is strong, but not exceptional. The LIG starts off nice, but kind of peters out towards the end. Shame. But the second set more than makes up for that and then some. The Samson opener is very, very strong and the Althea truly sweet. But then we get to the meat (a throwback to yesterdays Zappa post) of the thing with an exceptionally powerful Estimated>Eyes. The jam out of Estimated is amazing and the Eyes is one of those hopping joy festivals with Jerry blazing away that puts Eyes in my top five songs to have seen live when played like this. Maybe top 2. The jam out of Eyes into Drums is just picture postcard perfect, Jerry stretches it out into places that seem filled with prismatic light and perma-grins. And out of Space they whip out an UJB>Playin>China>UJB>Playin that works so well it sounds like they were born to be played like that. After that is good, but the pinnacle of this show is most assuradely the Esitmated through the final Playin reprise. This one I could listen to over and over. In fact, that's just what I'm doing now.

Some Dark Hollow,

I see that you're starting to see the wisdom of 1981. There are too many good shows to mention and this is certainly one of them. Let me also suggest a show from the school that I attended a few years later, 5-15-81 at Rutgers.

Are you willing to put 1981 above 1979 on your list yet? I would argue that it was a superior year, but I know you may not feel the same way.

That Estimated>Eyes was just what the doctor ordered. Thanks! The sound is outstanding. Bobby was spot on with the Estimated. Although the jazzy Eyes from 73-75 are my favorites, this fast mode groovin' of the early 80's lends nicely to fancy fret work. This UJB was another highlight for me. Very nice recommendation.
